If your connection is Fibre to the Premise (FTTP) or an Enhanced Fibre Phone Service, your ability to use your nbn™ service to make or receive calls in a power failure, including calls to an emergency service number, depends on whether a battery backup power supply is installed with the nbn™ equipment.
If a battery backup unit is not supplied, you will not be able to make or receive calls during a power failure, including calls to an emergency service number.
If you have a FTTP connection with Southern Phone, we automatically select the battery backup power supply installation option for you.
If your battery does require replacement within 2 years of the initial nbn™ installation at your premises, you will need to purchase a new battery for your nbn™ Battery Back Up Unit and supply Southern Phone Company with the Tax Invoice/Receipt for your battery purchase.
Southern Phone Company will reimburse up to $59.00 for the purchase of a replacement battery within 2 years of the initial nbn™ installation.
The Battery Back Up Power Supply Unit is not available for Fixed Wireless, Voip, Satellite, FTTN or HFC connections.
Please Note: The Battery Back Up Power Supply Unit will not power customer equipment (Handsets, Modems etc). You will need to ensure you have your own power supply for these devices.
A standard corded telephone can be plugged directly into the nbn™ NTD Unit to establish a temporary phone connection.
